Dr Ralph Hurley O’Dwyer
Clinical Specialty: Public Health Medicine
Dr Ralph Hurley O’Dwyer graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2017 with a degree in Medicine and an MSc. in Molecular Medicine, having also spent an Erasmus year at the University of Nantes. Following an Academic Internship at St. James’s Hospital and TCD, he undertook Basic Specialist Training in Medicine within the Mater Hospital network. Ralph was a George Moore Scholar at Harvard University, where he completed a Master of Public Health in Global Health. He also holds a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Ralph commenced Higher Specialist Training in Public Health Medicine in 2024. As an ICAT fellow, he intends to use epidemiological methods to understand the drivers of health-related vulnerability among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men.

Dr Claudia Gilders
Clinical specialty: Equine Internal Medicine
Claudia graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2017 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine, she undertook an internship and then spent time in practice gaining her certificate in advanced veterinary practice. She started her residency at UCD in 2022 and became a EBVS veterinary specialist in equine internal medicine in 2026. She is currently completing her doctorate of veterinary medicine in equine gastric glandular disease. As an ICAT fellow she hopes to investigate cardiac risk factors in racehorses with a one health focus for human athletes.

Dr Jennifer McGarry
Clinical Specialty: General Surgery
Jennifer McGarry is a Specialist Registrar in General Surgery. She graduated from the University of Galway in 2020. Her clinical and research interests lie in breast surgical oncology. As an ICAT fellow, Jennifer will investigate homologous recombination deficiency profiling in breast cancer brain metastases, with the aim of identifying patients who may benefit from targeted therapy.

Dr Cian Henry
Clinical Specialty: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr Cian Henry is a Specialist Registrar in Maxillofacial Surgery with a special interest in Head & Neck Oncology at the National Maxillofacial Unit, St James’s Hospital, Dublin. He graduated in Medicine from the University of Dublin, Trinity College in 2022. He completed Core Surgical Training with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH) and St James’s Hospital, before being appointed to Higher Specialist Training in Maxillofacial Surgery in 2025. As an ICAT Fellow, Cian’s research will focus on the investigation of liquid biopsy biomarkers to improve diagnosis, treatment selection and disease surveillance in Head & Neck cancer, with the aim of advancing precision oncology and improving outcomes for patients.
