My Work

Our work involves exploring mechanisms underlying thrombotic diseases and the interplay which exists between haemostasis and other biological and pathological processes. In my role as Co-director of the UCD Conway Sphere Research Group and as a Consultant Haematologist in the Mater Hospital, I lead/co-lead several clinical and translational projects along with my colleagues Professor Fionnuala Ní Áinle and Professor Patricia Maguire. I am currently the Principal Investigator of the EMPRESS Study (a clinical/translational study investigating molecular mechanisms underlying hypercoagulability in myeloproliferative neoplasms) and the SFI-funded COCCON Study, which is evaluating mechanisms underlying thromboinflammation associated with COVID-19.

Potential Projects

Potential avenues for future research within our group would include projects with a strong focus on evaluating the contribution of haemostatic pathyway activity/dysfunction with systemic diseases. Current research priorities include cancer-associated hypercoagulability, maternal medicine and coagulopathy associated with infectious diseases.

Emerging Supervisor

As an emerging supervisor with the ICAT programme, I work closely with a number of potential co-supervisors in the field of haematology including Professor Fionnuala Ní Áinle, my colleague in the UCD Conway Sphere Group/Mater Hospital.
