The key direction of our research is aimed at identifying new avenues for treating chronic inflammatory conditions such as psoriasis and Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) which affect millions of individuals worldwide. We take a translational research approach, using both preclinical models and patient samples, to investigate novel mechanisms implicated in the pathogenesis of these diseases, with the goal of identifying novel targets for therapeutic intervention.
My laboratories are located at Trinity Translational Medicine Institute (TTMI) and the National Children’s Research Centre ( NCRC) at CHI, Crumlin. This allows for close collaboration with clinician scientists and an international network of colleagues based in both academic and pharma sectors in support of our efforts to treat chronic disease across the lifespan. Recent publications from our group include, Nature Commun. 10, 1, 2019, 4003, Mucosal Immunology, Jan 27, 2016, 1193, Life Sci Alliance, 3, 4, 2020
Potential projects involve joining existing collaborative efforts aimed at investigating the mechanistic basis of disease pathogenesis, in paediatric IBD in collaboration with the gastroenterology team at CHI, Crumlin, and in psoriasis in collaboration with dermatologists at Tallaght hospital.
These projects would entail a broad experience across the translational research spectrum ranging from established preclinical animal models of disease to work with tissues from relevant patient cohorts.
