My Work

Our lab work focuses on discovery and validation of novel biomarkers using tissue hybridisation technologies and high quality, well characterised human tissue samples. We use single chromogenic and fluorescent multiplex staining, digital image analysis and machine learning approaches. Much of our biomarker work is collaborative, across a wide range of specialties including public health, oncology, clinical trials and most recently computer science. Current studies are centred around strategies for early detection and diagnosis of disease, particularly cancers of the upper aero-digestive tract to determine lethal from non-lethal cancers. A specific focus at present is to investigate the potential for tertiary lymphoid structures as biomarkers of clinical outcome.
