My Work

The Centre for Veterinary Epidemiology and Risk Analysis (CVERA) is Ireland’s only resource centre for veterinary epidemiology. It conducts non-profit, ‘public good’ research to support policy decision-making within Ireland (the Irish government and other national bodies) and more broadly (including the European Commission). Key areas of research are conducted across a range of issues relating to animal health and welfare (AH&W), including regulatory animal health (particularly bovine tuberculosis), non-regulatory animal health (including bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD), Johne’s disease, milk quality and infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR)), and more broadly, including work relating to antimicrobial usage and resistance and the national COVID-19 response, as well as contributions to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

Potential Projects

The work of CVERA is substantially informed by policy questions posed by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and Animal Health Ireland. Potential research projects would generally fit within this broader portfolio of work.
