My Work

My work focuses on the risk factors for cardiovascular and chronic kidney diseases, particularly modifiable risk factors and includes behaviours. A particular area of interest has been in the role of nutrition (specific nutrients such as sodium and potassium as well as overall diet quality) and cardiovascular and renal disease. I also have an interest in conservative management of advanced chronic kidney disease, including the provision of conservative management / care for ESKD and the interface between nephrology and palliative care. Finally, in my role as Director of the HRB Clinical Research Facility Galway and Director of the MSc Clinical Research at NUI Galway, I am involved in the methodology, design, planning and operations of a broad range of observational research projects, clinical trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
