My multidisciplinary research group aims to harness data to understand and improve our use of medications. Current work focuses on evidence of clinical effectiveness of recently marketed therapies for heart failure and diabetes, prescribing of opioid and sedative medications with a focus on older adults, and access and affordability of medications. Other interests include medicines optimisation, primary care, polypharmacy and deprescribing.
I collaborate on a range of projects, providing expertise in research methods, pharmacology and therapeutics, prescribing appropriateness and medication safety (particularly in older adults), and management of medication-related data. I have methodological expertise across epidemiology and health services research methods, observational research, studies involving analysis of routine data, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, statistical analysis, consensus (e.g. Delphi) methods, open science and open data.
I have experience as a methodological supervisor, in collaboration with clinical supervisors, for Master of Surgery students covering a range of subspecialties (e.g. oncology, gastroenterology, orthopaedics) and research methods (systematic reviews, diagnostic accuracy studies, prospective studies, analysis of routine/registry data).
