Affective disorders and psychosis alter the path and quality of a vast number of lives in a manner that can be ameliorated to substantial personal, family and societal gain. Biological Psychiatry is our focus of research to address this challenge. We conduct studies that combine brain imaging, genetic, cognitive and clinical investigations and in particular focus on human brain connectivity (the human connectome) in bipolar disorder and psychosis-related disorders.
For example, a currently open/recruiting Health Research Board funded study examines the cholinergic contribution to bipolar disorder and uses the Centre for Advanced Medical Imaging and the Clinical Research Facility both at St. James Hospital, Dublin.
