Prof Malone is chairman of two national networks in the perinatal space, together with his team at the RCSI Dept of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the Rotunda Hospital. Perinatal Ireland is a multi-centre, all-Ireland research consortium focussed on carrying out research into women's and children's health that links the 7 major academic obstetric hospitals and 7 medical schools across the island of Ireland.
In September 2014, funding for the HRB Mother & Baby Clinical Trials network (CTN) was announced, an exciting and unique partnership between the two most successful perinatal research entities currently operational in Ireland, INFANT (UCC) and Perinatal Ireland (RCSI).This network, through its partners and collaborators has a well-established record in collaborative research and in conducting large-scale, multicentre, randomised controlled trials and builds on the world class expertise and strengths of its partners and people, with a core focus on developing novel interventions and diagnostics in pregnancy and neonates. The HQ of this network is based in RCSI at the Rotunda and the suite of trials and research programme is managed and coordinated from here.
