The CF Research group at Children’s Health Ireland/RCSI has a particular interest in early CF lung disease, with our flagship study being SHIELD CF, a long term translational study based around banked biosamples and data collected annually and longitudinally from children with CF. SHIELD CF has contributed to more than 25 peer reviewed publications since 2011 and has been a vital tool in linking clinical and basic science teams across CHI and our national and international partners.
Our other main area of research interest is in clinical trials and real world studies of new CFTR modulator compounds. We have been involved in more than 20 interventional trials in CF in the last 10 years and are currently running a multicentre study in the UK and Ireland examining novel outcome measures in children and adults in CF.
