My Work

I investigate the molecular pathways that drive severe asthma. My particular research is focused on understanding the mechanisms that contribute to heterogeneity in clinical phenotypes and in response to treatment in asthma. My research aims are to bridge the gap between clinical and molecular phenotypes and from this advance precision medicine in asthma. I am a co-investigator in the Severe Asthma Research Program III. My work to date has identified that asthmatics patients with mucus plugging of the airways, have distinct pulmonary impairments and inflammatory profiles including severe airflow obstruction, type 2 inflammation and sub-optimal treatment responses. The significance of this work is that I have developed CT as a clinical biomarker, to identify a subgroup of asthmatics that may benefit from targeted treatment with mucolytics or type 2 inhibitors.
