My Work

Our research group focuses on advancing digital health and AI-enabled approaches to improve nutrition, lifestyle behaviours, and population health across clinical and community settings. We develop and evaluate digital tools to support dietary assessment, health surveillance, and behaviour change, with a strong emphasis on health equity and generating robust evidence to inform practice and policy.

Our work spans evidence synthesis, cross-sectional survey research, and real-world data analysis, alongside the design and evaluation of digital health interventions. We apply co-design methodologies with feasibility and usability testing to ensure solutions are grounded in user needs and responsive to clinical and community contexts.

Current projects include AI-enabled lifestyle behaviour change interventions (WiseFood), evaluation of experiences of GLP-1 medication use among individuals who use these therapies and healthcare professionals, and research to enhance older adults’ engagement with national digital patient portals.

Potential Projects

I welcome enquiries from prospective PhD students interested in the application of digital technologies and artificial intelligence within population health. Potential projects may explore how digital and AI-enabled tools can enhance dietary assessment, health surveillance, behaviour change support and healthy ageing particularly within primary and community care settings.

I am also interested in projects examining the evolving role of GLP-1 medications in obesity management within the Irish healthcare system. As prescribing expands, important questions arise regarding models of care, clinical pathways, patient outcomes, long-term sustainability, and health system impact, with a particular emphasis on nutrition and lifestyle support within routine clinical practice.

I am open to working with students who wish to shape a project within these broad areas using a mix of research approaches.
