My Work

Our team are dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities through oral health research. We have an interest in improving the inclusivity of methods of data collection in oral health research. We focus especially on adults with developmental disabilities. We are also engaged in improving oral home care for dependent adults, particularly in residential care facilities across Ireland. We also focus on standardising research concepts and measures in the field of dental behaviour support, with an interest in developing theory informed interventions and evaluations in this field.

Potential Projects

There is scope for PhD research in a number of specific strands. I welcome applicants who want to work with me, and our team to improve the measurement of oral health status among people with disabilities. This work focuses on the development and validation of oral health measures for use in health evaluation surveys. I also have opportunities for secondary research of large datasets relating to adults with intellectual disabilities and their oral health.

Another welcome avenue involves the evaluation of large scale oral health promotion across disability sectors in Ireland. This would involve intervention development and evaluation. Lastly, I welcome research students who have an interest in developing the field of dental behaviour support. Projects may focus on evaluation of novel interventions, Core Outcome Set develpment, and educational resource development / evaluation. I am eager to share my knowledge and passion with the right applicants.

Emerging Supervisor

There are a number of co-supervisors available within Trinity College Dublin, Trinity Centre for Ageing and Intellectual Disabilities (TCAID) and further afield, across my collaborators.
