My Work

Currently our lab focuses on the immune response to infection, particularly in the metabolic alterations that are required in order for an appropriate response to be initiated and maintained by the immune system and to examine the differences that occur at different times of life which may explain why some populations such as neonates are more prone to infectious diseases. I am a Principal Investigator for the All Ireland Infectious Disease Paediatric Cohort Study in Children's Health Ireland which should begin recruitment in 2025 and has great scope to examine a wide variety of clinical syndromes.

Potential Projects

Immunometabolic response to pathogens of concern such as Tuberculosis, Staph aureus and Group B streptococcus.
Longitudinal examination of the host response from acute infection to recovery
Differences in sepsis recovery between children and adults
Innate immune training in childhood
Manipulating the immune response with repurposed drugs
